"Opportunities and Experiences"
Jamila - GOSPO Chorus
Through the GOSPO Chorus program I have been granted with amazing opportunities and experiences including performing in the Adelaide Fringe, singing in a recording studio, and having many opportunities to perform individually and with a group. Through these experiences I have created so many memories and formed bonds with people that I can now call my friends and family.
"Rewarding"
Thomas Johnson - GOSPO Commentary
There is nothing more rewarding than working with a community of friends to create something complex and challenging - yet fun and beautiful. Charmaine is a music wiz and will help you get involved, no matter your skill level. See you there!
"Music keeps us together"
Kath Melbourne GOSPO Commentary
I’ve been part of my GOSPO music family for 7 years now. It’s great to get together each week and sing with like minded people who support each other and welcome new comers alike. Singing together as a choir family, gives me such confidence in my “average” singing, by being a small part of the bigger picture - which sounds so professional due to Charmaine’s guiding hand.
"The Value of Vocal Technique"
Zara - GOSPO Chorus
I have been doing GOSPO Chorus for nearly two years. My favourite thing so far has been singing two solos and learning how to use a microphone on stage. One of the most valuable things I have learnt is vocal technique and being confident while performing. My favourite performance was our recent show "A Chorus Cabaret".
"Rediscovery"
Akeera Chapman
After a year-long hiatus from singing, I decided to embark on a new journey with Gospo in 2023 to rediscover my love for choral music. I absolutely loved the style and joy Charmaine and the Gospo Collective portrayed, and simply wanted to ‘get in on the fun’. Gospo has been just that! It has created some incredible opportunities, a chance to connect with likeminded people, and a safe space where I can challenge myself by venturing out of my comfort zone.
"A Great Change of Pace"
Kelvin Maynes - GOSPO Collective
I've been singing with Gospo since Fringe 2009. I began in the backing choir through my high school and then continued through university. I am constantly challenged as a vocalist through my involvement with Gospo. I have the opportunity, weekly, to be using my voice and train my ears at each rehearsal. I continue because I believe in the music and connections we make for our audiences and each other. The arrangements, the sense of community and the sound are unlike anything else I've experienced - it's a great change of pace to everyday life. No matter how old you are, what background you come from or what you've been through - you will always find something new about yourself. There is always a way around the roadblock, and just when you think you've reached the mountaintop, you begin to climb another, always with someone singing by your side.
